LANOLIN

LANOLIN
RUST PROTECTION.

Sheep-wool oil that creeps into seams, never hardens, never cracks. The same coating we put on every vehicle in the Yelo team's personal garage.

Living in Minnesota means salt, slush, brine, snow, and constant freeze–thaw cycles every winter. These conditions take a serious toll on the underside of your vehicle — even on newer, high-value cars.

We use lanolin-based rust protection because it performs better than rubberized undercoating in real winter conditions. All of our personal vehicles have it. We've seen first-hand how it preserves frames over years of salt exposure.

Why It Matters

THE PROTECTION YOU'RE PAYING FOR.

BONDS WHERE RUST HIDES

Lanolin creeps into seams, bolts, welds, and gaps where traditional petroleum coatings can't reach. It bonds to bare metal and pushes moisture out — exactly where rust starts.

SELF-HEALING, NEVER CRACKS

Because lanolin never hardens, minor scratches and impacts close themselves. No cracked rubberized coating trapping moisture underneath. No hidden rust pockets.

STAYS SOFT IN SUB-ZERO

Stays flexible at -20°F. Rubberized coatings get brittle and crack in deep cold — exactly when Minnesota roads have the most salt.

RESALE VALUE INSURANCE

Buyers, dealers, and inspectors look at the underside first. A clean frame and rust-free suspension significantly boost resale on a $60k+ vehicle. Lanolin is the cheapest insurance policy you can buy.

Common Questions

STRAIGHT ANSWERS.

How long does lanolin rust protection last in Minnesota?
A lanolin application typically lasts 2–3 years, depending on driving habits and winter severity. Most Minnesota drivers experience 18–24 months of solid performance. Mild winters or lower mileage can extend that. Heavy salt or gravel-road driving may shorten it slightly. Either way, it lasts significantly longer than basic oil sprays.
How is lanolin different from rubberized undercoating?
Rubberized undercoating creates a hard shell on top of the metal. When that shell cracks (and it will, in Minnesota cold), moisture seeps in and gets trapped against the steel — actually accelerating rust. Lanolin penetrates into seams and stays soft, so it never cracks and never traps moisture.
What does the prep process look like?
Deep underbody power wash → degrease oily areas → thorough thermal dry → lanolin coating on all exposed metal except the exhaust. The full process takes most of a day. Lanolin only bonds correctly to a clean, dry surface.
Which parts get coated?
Frame rails, suspension components, rocker panels, weld seams, brake lines, fuel tank straps, and subframes. Anywhere salt and moisture can reach. We avoid the exhaust system because lanolin smokes off hot surfaces.
Will lanolin drip on my driveway?
First 24–48 hours, very minor surface drip is possible from over-spray as it settles. After that it bonds and stays put. We give every vehicle a controlled cure window before pickup.
Is this service worth it on a 1- or 2-year-old car?
Yes — that's actually the ideal time. The frame is still rust-free and lanolin can lock that in. Waiting until you see surface rust means you're treating an existing problem instead of preventing one.
